LLWS Standouts: 1999-2008

Summer wouldn't be summer without water parks, snow cones and of course Little League! If you've hit the first two, but have yet to check in with the future of America's pastime, have no fear. The 2009 Little League World Series gets underway on August 21st. To get you amped up for this year's tourney in Williamsport, PA, SI Kids looked back at the last ten World Series Champs. Check them out as you wait to see which team joins this prestigious group in 2009.Featuring current St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Colby Rasmus, the 1999 LLWS was all about the team from Osaka, Japan. Japanese pitcher Kazuki Sumiyama held the South to only two hits and his team won 5-0.

Maracaibo, Venezuela gave Latin America its second Little League World Series title in six years with a 3-2 win over Bellaire, Texas. Ruben Mavarez pitched a four-hitter for Venezuela.

Tokyo Kitasuna rallied for two runs in its last at-bat to beat Apopka, Fla., 2-1 in the title game. Nobuhisa Baba hit a game-winning line drive off the shortstop's glove in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Aaron Alvey of Louisville, Ky., hit a homer and struck out 11 to lift his squad to a 1-0 victory Sunday over Sendai, Japan.

A Japanese team won the Little League World Series for the third time in five years. Hokuto Nakahara hit a grand slam in a 10-1 win over Boynton Beach, Fla.

Curacao won its first LLWS title thanks to Carlos Pineda who struck out 11 batters and Jurickson Profar's two-run home run.

West Oahu of Ewa Beach, Hawaii made a stunning comeback over the defending champions from Willemstad, Curacao, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game and hitting the first game-ending home run in a Little League championship game in the seventh.

Cody Walker hit a two-run homer, Kyle Carter struck out 11, and Columbus, Georgia beat Kawaguchi City, Japan, 2-1 giving an American team the championship for the second straight year.

Warner Robins hit a walk-off home run in the eighth inning to beat Japan for the Little League World Series Title.

Tanner Tokunaga hit two homers to help Waipahu, Hawaii beat Matamoros, Mexico, in 12-3 victory. It was the fourth straight Little League title for the United States.
