Winning pitcher Steve Carlton limits Kansas City to 4 hits in seven innings and Tug McGraw hurls the last two frames to pick up the save.

Boston's Ray Bourque becomes the fifth defenseman in NHL history to play in 1,300 regular-season games.

Defeating the Padres, 3-0, in Game 4, the Yankees sweep the Padres to win their 24th World Series championship. It is the 125th victory for the Bronx Bombers this season.
