In the fifth game of the Stanley Cup finals, the Islanders capture the championship with a 5-1 victory over Minnesota.


Ralph Sampson and Hakeem Olajuwon

Ralph Sampson (left) and Hakeem Olajuwon defeat the Los Angeles Lakers, 114-112, at Los Angeles in Game 5 of the 1986 Western Conference Finals. The loss kept the defending champion Lakers, who had won 62 games during the regular season, out of the NBA Finals for the only time in a span of eight years from 1982 through 1989.


Chicago Bulls

With a 105-97 win over the Detroit Pistons in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference Final series, the Chicago Bulls set an NBA playoff record for consecutive wins at home with 15.


Buck Rodgers

Manager Buck Rodgers and 11 others are injured when the Angels' team bus goes out of control on the New Jersey Turnpike and crashes into trees. The skipper is seriously injured and will miss nearly 90 games.
