In the fifth game of the Stanley Cup finals, the Islanders capture the championship with a 5-1 victory over Minnesota.

Ralph Sampson (left) and Hakeem Olajuwon defeat the Los Angeles Lakers, 114-112, at Los Angeles in Game 5 of the 1986 Western Conference Finals. The loss kept the defending champion Lakers, who had won 62 games during the regular season, out of the NBA Finals for the only time in a span of eight years from 1982 through 1989.
