Back in Time: April 20


The famed home of the Red Sox hosted its first professional game. Boston beat the New York Highlanders (later known as the Yankees) 7-6 in 11 innings in front of 27,000 fans. On that same day, Tigers owner Frank Navin opened up Navin Field (which would become Tiger Stadium), with a capacity of 23,000.

The Kid recorded his first hit at the age of 20. He went on to hit .327 with 31 homers and 145 RBIs that season, the start of one of the great careers in baseball history.

The Mets Hall of Famer earns his first victory, a 6-1 result against the Cubs. Seaver went on to pile up 310 more wins during his illustrious 20-year career.

Michael Jordan set an NBA playoff record that still stands today, scoring 63 points against Boston. But the Celtics actually won the game 135-131 in double-overtime, and went on to sweep the Bulls.

Baltimore set the record for worst start to a season at 0-14. (The Orioles got to 0-21 before recording their first win.)
