Andre Dawson: Through the Years

In one of the tightest elections ever, Andre Dawson was the only player elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers Association of America in 2010. Dawson, the 1987 NL MVP, had a .279 career batting average with 438 home runs and 314 stolen bases.

Dawson was the 1977 National League Rookie of the Year with the Montreal Expos, hitting .282 with 19 home runs and 21 stolen bases.

Dawson made eight All-Star teams in his 21-year career.

Dawson joins Barry Bonds and Willie Mays as the only players with 400 home runs and 300 stolen bases.

Dawson won eight Gold Glove awards in his career.

Dawson's numbers started to decline in the latter stages of his career with the Red Sox (1993-94) and Marlins ('95-96)

After announcing his retirement during his 1996 season with the Marlins, Dawson received cheers from Cubs fans upon his return to Wrigley Field late in the season.

Dawson, seen here throwing out the first pitch before a Marlins-Rays game in July 2009, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame July 25 in Cooperstown, N.Y.
