Super Bowl XLVIII Week Day 6: NFL Honors

Today was my last day in New York City, and to end my Super Bowl week I attended the 3rd Annual NFL Honors at Radio City Music Hall. We had to get there early in order to scout out our place on the red carpet. We entered the heated and tented area where the red carpet was laid out, planted our stuff down, and claimed our spot.

Then the doors opened up and celebrities began walking by.

I started off by talking with defensive rookie of the year Sheldon Richardson of the New York Jets. Thomas Davis and Robert Mathis also stopped by to chat with me, as did NFL players LeSean McCoy, Ricky Jean-Francois, Patrick Peterson, Kyle Rudolph, Brandon Marshall, and Victor Cruz.

But, it wasn’t just current players walking the carpet, Marshall Faulk, Joe Namath, Emmitt Smith, Kurt Warner, and Cris Carter all stopped so I could ask them a question, too. Even Ann and Mitt Romney were there. They are both huge Patriots fans.

Most of the people I talked to already had in mind who they wanted to win the Lombardi Trophy* this year. Sheldon Richardson, Marshall Faulk, and Jim Harbaugh are all pulling for the Broncos to win their third Super Bowl. But others such as Kyle Rudolph and Emmitt Smith wanted the Seahawks to come out victorious. Everybody had an opinion — except head of the NFL Players Association DeMaurice Smith. When asked who he thought would win, he said the players. Smart man.

It was an amazing and fun night being able to recognize all of the excellent effort and work all of the players have put into this NFL season. And for me, talking to all of the players and covering the event was a great way to end my week covering Super Bowl XLVIII events in New York City!
