The AL East is Tighter Than Ever

Image placeholder title

The AL East has always been known as one of the toughest divisions in baseball. However, this year a new team has entered the race for the division title: the Toronto Blue Jays.

Four teams are within nine games of first place. The Blue Jays have had a great offense this season. Meanwhile, the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are currently tied for first place. As usual, both teams have several players who will be appearing in next week’s All-Star game. The Tampa Bay Rays are 4.5 games out.

The big question in the AL East is whether the Blue Jays can pull out a comeback, or if the defending AL champion Rays can win the division.

I think that any of these teams have a good shot at winning the division. (Unfortunately for Baltimore fans, I don’t believe that the Orioles can contend with the top teams in the AL East.)

The team I believe will win the division is the New York Yankees. Let’s face it, the Yankees have one of the best offenses in the league, led by power hitters Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez, and a great pitching staff led by CC Sabathia, Andy Pettitte, and Mariano Rivera.

I do think that the Boston Red Sox will win the Wild Card spot. The Sox also have a great offense this season, and they have great starting pitchers, including surprising veteran Tim Wakefield, who has 11 wins this year.

I don’t think that the Tampa Bay Rays will be able to repeat their amazing year and win the AL East. However, we still have a whole season to play, and anything can happen in baseball.
