Stephen Curry Meets Mo’ne, Asks for Her Autograph

When Stephen Curry met Mo’ne Davis last week before the Golden State Warriors game against the Philadelphia 76ers, he did not waste the opportunity to commemorate the moment.

The Warriors point guard and NBA MVP candidate is a big fan of the Little League World Series pitching phenom and 2014 SI Kids Sports Kid of the Year winner.So he did what fans usually do when they meet a great athlete: ask for an autograph.  

“Mo’ne signed a Sports Illustrated Kids cover personalized to me,” Curry said over All-Star Weekend in New York City. “I will have that framed when I get home.” 

During the pre-game shootaround, the first girl to throw a shutout in the LLWS put up a few shots with Curry looking on. In addition to throwing a 70 mph fastball, the eighth grader is the starting point guard for Philadelphia’s Springside Chestnut Hill Academy varsity girls' basketball team. Curry, the NBA’s single-season three-point goal record holder (272), was impressed by her shooting ability.

“I saw her form. She has a solid technique and a pretty good touch for the game,” Curry said. “I know she has big dreams to play [in the WNBA]. I think she’s well suited to do that.”

And like Curry, Davis has strong ball handling skills and can shake off defenders while driving to the hole. She did exactly that in the NBA All-Star Celebrity game Friday night, when she unleashed a mean crossover and spin move to blow past comedian Kevin Hart.



Curry not only cosigned on Davis’s shooting technique, he also gave her props for how well she’s dealing with her new fame. Davis remains poised, even when her favorite basketball player asks for her signature.

“She’s a great young lady who has a bright future ahead of her,” Curry said. “Just to see how composed she is in this hoopla is pretty special. Mo’ne is mature well beyond her years. She is destined for some great things.”
