Ben Roethlisberger Sets Record With Back-to-Back Six TD Games

In a season dominated by Peyton Manning's destruction of the NFL's touchdown record book, you might have missed the season Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is putting together. Last week, he threw for 522 yards and six TDs in a wild game against the Indianapolis Colts. It was his single-best day as an NFL QB.

So what does he do for an encore? How about more of the same? Yesterday, Big Ben threw for 340 yards and six more TDs against the Baltimore Ravens. And in throwing six touchdowns on Sunday Roethlisberger became the first QB in NFL history to throw six touchdowns in back-to-back games. The only people who have come closer were Oakland's Tom Flores in 1963 and Tom Brady in 2007, both of whom threw 11 TDs in a two-game span.

“It was like a video game out there,” Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons said. “Guys were scoring touchdowns left and right. It was amazing to see.”

Roethlisberger was a little more humble about his achievement. "As long as we win, that's all that matters," he said about the record after the game.

But when pressed he added, "It means that guys are catching touchdowns. And it's fun.  Especially that last one. I was so happy for Matt [Spaeth]. That was such a big play for him and I was just so excited for a guy that's been around a long time that puts a lot of dirty work in, for him to get that touchdown."

The Steelers put together a video recap of all 12 of Roethlisberger's touchdown on their site. Check it out at Steelers.com (since we're not able to embed the video here).
