Giants Pitcher Tim Lincecum Throws Second Career No-Hitter

Heads up, Dodgers: You no longer have the market cornered on no-hitters this season. Earlier today, Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum no-hit the San Diego Padres for his second no-no of his career. What's more, his first no-no came less than a year ago, on July 13, 2013, against — that's right — the Padres.

"I wasn't really thinking about it out there, and at the very end it caught me by surprise, and what do you know? You got a no-hitter," Lincecum said.



Heading into the game, Lincecum was 5-5 with a 4.90 ERA. And his no-hitter wasn't nearly as dominant as the one thrown by Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw last week. Lincecum threw six strikeouts on 113 pitches and one walk. But it was a marked improvement over his last no-hitter (148 pitches, 13 Ks and four walks in 2013) — and it showed the former ace still has something left in the tank.

"He really was an artist out there," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "I thought he pitched very efficiently — had all his pitches working, hit his spots. Early in the game, I said he's got a chance to throw a no-hitter here just the way he was locked in and had everything working for him."

"It's hard enough to do one, to do two, that puts you in a little different class, and I couldn't be happier," Bochy added. "The club needed it, Timmy needed it, good for him."
