Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has been named the Premier League Player of the Season, the club announced Friday.

Vardy led the club with 24 goals in 35 matches, including scoring in an EPL–record 11 straight matches, and helped Leicester to an improbable first Premier League title. He becomes the first Leicester player to ever win the award. He was named Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year on Thursday.

His remarkable ascent from lower-tier soccer to joining Leicester in 2012 has been well documented, and his role in the club’s surprise Premier League dominance has led to a place with England's national team. He is expected to be part of England's Euro 2016 squad.

Vardy, 29, was part of a 10-man shortlist for the award, including teammates Riyad Mahrez, N'Golo Kante, Kasper Schmeichel and Wes Morgan, West Ham's Dimitri Payet, Arsenal's Mesut Ozil and Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld.
