Paolo Guerrero's diving header leads Peru by Haiti at Copa America

The Peruvian became his nation's all-time leading scorer and bagged three important points at Copa America.

Paolo Guerrero's record-setting goal netted Peru three valuable points at Copa America Centenario.

Guerrero's diving header in the 61st minute gave Peru a 1-0 win over Haiti at Seattle's CenturyLink Field in the Group B opener for both teams. Guerrero broke a tie with Teofilo Cubillas to become Peru's all-time leading scorer, with the tally his 27th in his career. He's done plenty of damage at Copa America, emerging as the leading scorer in each of the last two editions of the competition with five goals in 2011 and four more in 2015.

Guerrero latched on to Edison Flores's cross from the left and timed his header to perfection to beat the otherwise sound Haitian goalkeeper, Johnny Placide.

Haiti had a chance to equalize in the last seconds, but Kervens Belfort put his header off a perfectly designed free kick just wide of the right post.

Haiti's next Group B match is vs. Brazil, while Peru will face Ecuador, both on June 8.
