The New York Rangers have traded center Derick Brassard and a 2018 seventh-round pick to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for forward Mika Zibanejad and a 2018 second-round pick, the Rangers announced Monday.
Brassard, 28, had a strong season for the Rangers in 2015–16, leading the team with a career-high 27 goals. He still has three years left on a five-year, $25 million deal.
The Quebec native joined the Rangers in 2012–13 as part a trade involving the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Zibanejad, 23, is coming off the best season of his career, scoring 21 goals and 51 points in 81 games for the Senators. He was drafted by Ottawa with the No. 6 pick in the 2011 draft.
