Usain Bolt to run 100 meter dash at Cayman Invitational in May

Usain Bolt will open his international campaign with a 100-meter dash at the Cayman Invitational on May 14, according to 

“I am pleased to announce that I will be competing in the 100 meters at the Cayman International T&F meeting on May 14,” Bolt said. “It will be my first international competition in 2016 and my second time to run in Cayman. I always enjoy competing in the Caribbean and look forward to meeting my fans in Cayman.”

The meet is tentatively slated to be Bolt’s season-opener, although another race in Jamaica could be possible in April. Bolt has opened his year with a race in Kingston in 2012, 2013 and 2015. Last year, he contested the 400 meters where he ran 46.38.

Bolt took his time rounding into form but won gold in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 4x100 meter relay at last year’s world championships in Beijing.

Bolt last ran at the Cayman Invitational in 2013, when he won the 100 meters in 10.09.

Bolt also plans to run in the London Diamond League meet in July.

Olympic gold medalists Allyson Felix and Carmelita Jeter were also announced as part of the meet. Rio hopefuls Jenna Prandini and Kori Carter will also compete.
