Red Sox slugger David Ortiz will appear on a regional cover of Sports Illustrated this week, serving as our guest editor and sitting down for an interview with Tom Verducci.
The appearance comes weeks after the release of a special retirement issue. It’s Ortiz’s fourth time on the cover.
The 40-year-old is walking away from baseball after a 20-year career, in which he made 10 All-Star teams and hit 540 home runs. He is set to play his final game on Oct. 2, in Boston, against the Toronto Blue Jays. Before that, the Red Sox will play a three-game set against the Yankees in New York.
The late Arnold Palmer will appear on the national cover.
