Conor Gillaspie was the ninth-inning hero for the Giants against the Mets in Wednesday night’s NL wild-card game, delivering a three-run shot off closer Jeurys Familia to break a scoreless tie and give San Francisco a 3–0 lead – and eventually, a win.
Gillaspie drove a Familia fastball to right-centerfield, ending New York’s playoff hopes in the winner take-all contest.
Watch the home run below:
Madison Bumgarner and Noah Syndergaard dueled for much of the game, with Syndergaard throwing seven scoreless before being relieved by Addison Reed, and Bumgarner remaining in to pitch the ninth for the Giants.
Bumgarner completed the nine-inning shutout comfortably, in keeping with his history of post-season dominance.
The Giants will face the Cubs in the NLDS, which begins Friday night in Chicago.
