Arizona Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale is not pleased with all the attention that his team is receiving as the 2016 season gets underway, according to Nick Piecoro of AZCentral.com.
“You guys built it up really good,” Hale told reporters. “You did a nice job of it. I said it before the game, you guys really hyped it up. Every Opening Day is every Opening Day. It means no more than tomorrow’s game.”
Arizona dropped the season opener with a 10–5 loss to the Colorado Rockies. Starting pitcher Zack Greinke lasted just four innings as he surrendered seven runs on nine hits, three of which were home runs.
Starting pitcher Shelby Miller will make his Diamondbacks debut on Tuesday. Arizona acquired him from the Atlanta Braves in a five-player deal. Hale seemed similarly unexcited about the anticipation of the young star’s debut.
“Probably built it up just the way tonight was built up,” Hale said. “I'm sure you'll do a good job of that too.”
First pitch against the Rockies is slated for 9:40 p.m. ET at Chase Field.
