On ice projections have been around the NHL for a few years now and, while they are generally awesome looking, the concepts are starting to get a little stale. No matter how breathtaking the graphics are, you can only see the ice broken up and turn to fire so many times before fans want something new.
On Wednesday night the Lightning gave spectators a look at a wonderful use for the ultra HD projections system: playing Mario Kart between periods.
The team has been doing this throughout the playoffs and it is the best idea a sports arena has ever had. It is hard to take the sting out of a home playoff loss but after seeing a massive game of Mario Kart on NHL ice it would be hard for Lightning fans not to leave the stadium smiling just a little bit.
