Last July, Madison won gold in the 100-meter backstroke and silver in the 200-meter event at the North Carolina Long Course Championships for the 11- to 12-year-old age group. As a member of the North Mecklenburg Aqua Devils, she holds nine team records and has won 13 state medals.
Courtney is the junior national champion in the 200-meter butterfly and is ranked 12th in the nation (all age groups) in the event. Courtney also qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 100m and 200m butterfly and won the 50m, 100m, and 200m butterfly at the 2011 YMCA Nationals.
Big things are happening for Michael, and it’s not just because the 12-year-old already stands 6 feet tall and wears a size 14 shoe. Michael, who excels in all four strokes, is the top-ranked swimmer in his age group in nine short-course events and still holds seven national records in the 10-and-under age group. He has won so many medals and awards that they cover his walls at home. “They are all special to me,” he says. Michael hopes to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and add the ultimate medal to his collection.
