Today we’ll hash out a baseball debate older than Babe Ruth. Okay, maybe not quite that old. But it’s as old as Nomar Garciaparra:
As always, if you want to appear in next week’s Question of the Week, you can answer it at the bottom of the page. But first, the best answers to last week’s Question of the Week…
“I think pitchers should hit! They hit at every level but the pros. Plus, it’s the way the game had been played since the MLB introduced the DH in 1973.”
-Billy, New York
“I really like the DH rule because it gives teams an extra hitter meaning more players can play. Sometimes a player is somewhat hurt but can still play if he’s the DH. However, I like the fact that both leagues are different and I think it should stay that way.”
-Jacob, Michigan
“I like the DH rule. Being a Yankees fan, I’m happy to see Hideki Matsui grab a bat and hit for C.C. Sabathia any day.”
-Malcolm, Illinois
“I think it should be pitchers hit in both leagues or DHs hit in both leagues. During interleague play it’s a disadvantage to AL teams having pitchers hit when they never do.”
-Justin, Missouri
“I love the DH! Except for when pitchers like Carlos Zambrano, Johan Santana, and C.C. Sabathia show that they are great hitters! That’s why I love interleague play: so I can see which pitchers from the AL can hit!”
-AthleticGeek6
“Remember when BoSox reliever Ramon Ramirez struck out to end the game against the Nationals last week? I’m a huge Sox fan and I was rolling on the floor laughing (literally!). No DH rule!”
-Amin, Massachusetts
“I think the DH rule is dumb. I think this because all of the pitchers have hit before. I pitch, but I also hit, because I’m in Little League. The pitchers in the major leagues may not be fast, but they know a lot of pitches and how they move in the strike zone.”
-PitcherBomber3
“Sorry AL fans, but I think baseball could do without the DH rule. The NL’s small ball style is much more interesting to me, with pinch-hitters, double switches, bunts, and manufacturing runs. I loved players like Edgar Martinez and Frank Thomas, but I think they could handle manning first base or roaming a corner outfield spot. As for pitchers, let ‘em hit!”
