Tony Hawk Set to Revolutionize Skating Games

Let's be honest: No matter how much of a fan you are, the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series has been running on fumes the past few years. The last few Hawk games have been decent enough, but still couldn't hold a candle to EA's more innovative skate franchise. (If you haven't played skate 2, you're missing out on one of the great sports games of last year. Go play it. Like, now!)

The Sports Gamer recently heard rumors that there would be a "new, revolutionary Tony Hawk game" before the end of the year. I thought, I've heard that before.

Enter Tony Hawk Ride, the 10th in the Hawkman's series of games. And--surprise, surprise--it looks like it might finally deliver on this whole "revolutionary" thing.

Watch the trailer above and keep reading for a pic of the game’s unique new control system.

The big draw of Ride is the inclusion of a virtual skateboard that gamers can use to pull off ollies, nollies, and kick-flips. From what I can tell, the board is a sophisticated piece of electronics that features several built-in motion sensors to gauge your movements and translate them onscreen into gameplay.

OK, Activision. You have my attention. It's official: I'm exciting about Tony Hawk games again. (It'll be available for the PS3, 360, Wii, and PS2.)

I'll give this thing a test-drive at E3 in two weeks, and get back to you with my full impressions.
