Are you looking for a new PS3 game but can’t decide on one? Well, look no further because Cars 2 the video game, like the movie is fantastic. And don’t worry if you haven’t seen the movie yet, the game doesn’t spoil the plot. Whether you’re a big fan of Lightning McQueen and friends or just like racing games this is an amazing game because it is so much more than just a racing game.
As soon as you pop the disc in you will be brought to the C.H.R.O.M.E. (Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage) Training Facility. Once you select your character (choose wisely, this will be your character until the next time you restart the game) you will have various missions with C.H.R.O.M.E agents Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell. This is basically the “story mode” of Cars 2. At first, these missions are just tutorials leading to the occasional race here and there. Eventually when you move up in the mission classes it becomes mostly races or other game modes. As you complete missions, you unlock new game modes and tracks.
After a while you may get a little bored with C.H.R.O.M.E Missions Mode. It’s fine because you can save and come back later, even with a different car. There are plenty of great other game modes, provided you’ve unlocked them in C.H.R.O.M.E Missions Mode. There’s a race mode which is just that: a straight up race. There is also a battle race mode which is reminiscent of Mario Kart, where every so often you obtain weapons that you can use against your opponents. Also, there is a variety of modes perfect for multiplayer play with friends including Hunter, Attack, Survival, Battle Arena and Disruptor modes. Squad Series is a great mode as well, where you compete in a series of C.H.R.O.M.E Missions to see who the best C.H.R.O.M.E agent is. Finally there is the World of Cars, the online mode of Cars 2.
As you can see, Cars 2 is an incredible video game. Personally, my only concern is the replay value of this game. Once you complete C.H.R.O.M.E Missions Mode there won’t be that much to do with the exception of multiplayer or maybe going after specific trophies. Unless you go through C.H.R.O.M.E Missions Mode again (which probably won’t be as fun) this most likely won’t be a long-term game. However, I wouldn’t get rid of it because whenever you have friends over once in a while, it is a great multiplayer game.
