New Era reps took a couple prototypes of the new caps down to spring training to let players try them out. They went crazy over them, Krause says, because it wasn't a stretch-fit cap.
"They were excited that it was a 59Fifty [cap] because the batting practice cap cap, historically, has been a 39Thirty stretch-fit with a curved visor. But these were guys who had been playing in fitted caps since they were little kids in little league. They get to the pros, and why would they go back to a stretch fit? So from our perspective it just made sense to go back to fitted."
