The Giants became only the third team in NLCS history to overcome a 3-1 deficit to win the pennant. After outstanding pitching from Barry Zito and Ryan Vogelsong in Game 5 and 6 evened the series at 3-3, Matt Cain shut down the Cardinals in Game 7 while the offense exploded for nine runs. San Francisco outscored St. Louis 20-1 in the final three games and advanced to the World Series for the second time in three seasons.
