In staggering heat for three-and-a-half hours on Aug. 31, Frenchman Arnaud Clement prevailed over Marcos Baghdatis 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, 4-6, 5-7 in an entertaining match on Louis Armstrong Stadium court. Midway through the fifth set, ESPN reported that the temperature on court had reached nearly 120 degrees. Baghdatis, the 2009 Australian Open runner-up, finished with more aces than Clement (22-6) and more winners (56-42) but played high risk tennis that felled him in the end.
