Jerry Shields, 54, from Jacksonville, Fla., an Army and National Guard veteran, pulls the string of his compound bow with his mouth on his way to winning the gold medal in the quadriplegic masters archery event July 9 in Denver. Shields, who suffered a stroke in 1997, also competed in air guns and power soccer at the 30th National Veterans Wheelchair Games.
