With all the attention on Stephen Strasburg, another 2009 draftee is making a name for himself to start the 2010 season. Drafted eighth last year by Cincinnati (seven picks after Strasburg), Leake has carried a Reds pitching staff that was ranked 22nd in the National League as of June 8. In his 11 starts, Leake has delivered quality starts in all but one of those games. Even after one start in which he allowed five earned runs, he came back by holding opponents to one run or fewer in six of his next eight starts. As of June 8, Leake was tied for sixth in the NL with a 2.22 ERA.
