About a half-million spectators catch a glimpse of the runners each year as thousands pack the sides of the winding course. In 2010, Kenyan runner Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot set the men's course record with a time of 2:05:52, and Ernst van Dyk of South Africa won the men's wheelchair marathon for the ninth time -- the most by any athlete in any category.
