NHL lockout drives one hockey fan to pay $5,300 for Maple Leafs' old toilet
The holiday season is upon us, which means that folks everywhere are getting their wish lists together. One hockey fan received his present a little early when he won an auction for a toilet. And not just any toilet—a used toilet! Jim Vigmond, a 55-year-old lawyer from Ontario, Canada, paid $5,300 at an auction for a porcelain throne that had been in the Toronto Maple Leafs locker room at their old arena.
"I just thought...what a rare piece and just think of all of the people that have spent time contemplating in that dressing room what lies ahead of them,” Vigmond said.
And Vigmond was willing to spend as much as $10,000 for the toilet that Leafs stars Mats Sundin or Tie Domi or Curtis Joseph may have once popped a squat on. We can only hope that this NHL lockout ends soon. It's clear that hockey fans with too much time on their hands do strange things, and it will only get weirder the longer the lockout goes on.
