US Women's Soccer Wins Gold and Avenges Loss To Japan In World Cup Final

WEMBLEY, England (AP) -- Hope Solo found herself enveloped in a group hug at the final whistle. Abby Wambach ran to join the fun in a celebration that unleashed a year of bottled-up frustration.

The U.S. women's soccer team won its third straight Olympic gold medal Thursday, beating Japan 2-1 in a rematch of last year's World Cup final and avenging the most painful loss in its history.

Carli Lloyd scored early in both halves, Solo leaped and dived to make saves, and the entire roster found the redemption it had been seeking since that penalty kick shootout loss in Germany last summer.More »

LONDON (AP) Bronze medal around his neck, Danell Leyva applauded as Kohei Uchimura took the top spot on the podium.

Hey, no shame finishing behind a guy who might very well be the best gymnast of all time.

Uchimura added Olympic gold to the world titles he's won the last three years, and it was never much of a contest. All but wrapping up the gold midway through the meet, the only question was how big his victory would be and who would be standing next to him on the medals podium.More »

USA Takes Home First Bobsled Gold Since 1948

WHISTLER, British Columbia (AP) -- With one more perfect run down sliding's most treacherous track, Steven Holcomb drove USA-1 to the Olympic gold medal in four-man bobsledding Saturday, ending a 62-year drought for the Americans in the event.

It was the first gold medal for the U.S. in sliding's signature race since Francis Tyler won one for the Americans at St. Moritz in 1948.
