SAN JOSE, Calif.(AP) Antti Niemi might finally be putting to rest all those questions about whether he is the Chicago Blackhawks ' weak link.

Niemi made 44 saves, Dustin Byfuglien scored the tiebreaking goal with 6:45 remaining in regulation to help Chicago get off to a fast start for a change this postseason by beating the San Jose Sharks 2-1 Sunday in the opener of the Western Conference final.

Canadiens stun Penguins 5-2, advance to East finals 9

PITTSBURGH(AP) First the Capitals, now the Penguins. The Canadiens, the worst-record team in the playoffs, keep sending home the NHL's best.

Brian Gionta had two power-play goals, Mike Cammalleri scored his seventh goal of a series in which he upstaged Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin and Montreal built a stunning four-goal lead before beating the Penguins 5-2 in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals Wednesday night.

Believe it, Canadiens. Disbelieve it, Penguins.

Blackhawks rout Canucks, return to West finals 3

VANCOUVER, British Columbia(AP) After polishing off the Canucks with three wins in Vancouver, the Chicago Blackhawks don't mind opening the Western Conference finals at top-seeded San Jose.

Troy Brouwer and Kris Versteeg scored 36 seconds apart early in the second period, and the Blackhawks eliminated Vancouver in Game 6 of the second round for the second straight year with a 5-1 win on Tuesday night.

Canadiens beat Penguins, force Game 7 1

MONTREAL(AP) The Montreal Canadiens ' improbable playoff run has reached a decisive seventh game for a second series in a row.

Michael Cammalleri scored his second goal of the game midway through the second period and Jaroslav Spacek netted the go-ahead tally 2:30 later for the Canadiens, who forced a Game 7 in the Eastern Conference semifinals with a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night.

Maxim Lapierre also scored 11:03 into the third to give Montreal a 4-2 lead.

Marie-Philip Poulin scored two goals, Shannon Szabados made 28 saves, and Canada rolled through its American rivals, 2-0, to win the gold medal in women's hockey for the third straight Olympics Thursday night in front of a raucous Vancouver crowd ringing cowbells and frantically waving thousands of maple leaf flags.
