Woods gets in practice round ahead of British Open

TURNBERRY, Scotland (AP) Tiger Woods had another look at Turnberry as he prepares for the British Open, hopeful of taking possession of a major championship trophy again.

Woods teed off on the Ailsa Course early Monday morning and was finished as some players were just arriving. He had never seen Turnberry, which has not hosted golf's oldest championship since 1994.

"It's a lot more difficult than people are letting on,'' Woods said.

Kidd Plans to Re-Sign with Mavericks

DALLAS (AP) -- The Mavericks say they have reached a deal to keep free agent point guard Jason Kidd in Dallas.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said Monday that Kidd has agreed to sign a three-year contract for more than $25 million. That could allow the 37-year-old Kidd to end his career with the same team he started with in the NBA in 1994.

Federer Wins Marathon to Set Grand Slam Record

WIMBLEDON, England (AP) -- Roger Federer was playing for history. Andy Roddick was playing the match of his life.

On and on they dueled, Federer trying for a record-breaking 15th major championship, Roddick striving for his second, in a Wimbledon final that required more games than any Grand Slam title match in the considerable annals of a sport dating to the 1800s.

Bees Cause Delay at Astros-Padres Game

SAN DIEGO—Talk about adding a late-inning buzz to a ballgame.

The Houston Astros—who once had the "Killer B's"—beat the San Diego Padres 7-2 on Thursday, but only after waiting out a 52-minute delay in the top of the ninth inning caused when a swarm of bees took over part of left field at Petco Park.

Geoff Blum hit a three-run homer and finished with four RBIs. The Astros won three of four against the Padres.

Pistons Set to Sign Ben Gordon, Villanueva

DETROIT (AP) -- The Detroit Pistons wanted to add talent and get younger this offseason.

On the first day of free agency, Detroit did both.

Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva agreed in principle to five-year contracts with the Pistons, a person with the knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press on Wednesday night.

WIMBLEDON, England (AP) -- Roger Federer neutralized Ivo Karlovic's huge serves Wednesday to reach the Wimbledon semifinals and move a step closer to a record 15th Grand Slam championship. Two-time finalist Andy Roddick, Andy Murray and Tommy Haas completed the final four.
