Phelps Sets World Record in 200 Butterfly

ROME (AP) -- Now that's more like it. Michael Phelps bounced back from a stunning loss with something more familiar -- another world record Wednesday.

One night after he was soundly beaten by Germany's Paul Biedermann, Phelps set a world record in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 1 minute, 51.51 seconds -- more than a half-second ahead of his previous mark, 1:52.03.

Vikes Coach Says Favre is Done

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Vikings coach Brad Childress says Brett Favre won't come out of retirement to play for Minnesota.

Childress confirmed to The Associated Press in a text message on Tuesday that the three-time MVP quarterback for the Green Bay Packers would not join his team.

The story was first reported by The Star Tribune on its Web site.

Childress told the paper Favre did not want to put himself through the grind of another football season.

German Beats Phelps in 200 Freestyle

ROME (AP) -- The winner draped himself triumphantly on the lane rope, thrusting his right hand in the air to celebrate a world record.

It's a familiar scene for Michael Phelps. This time, all he could do was watch.

Germany's Paul Biedermann handed Phelps his first major individual loss in four years -- and snatched away his world record, too -- with a stunning win in the 200-meter freestyle at the world swimming championships on Tuesday.
