Redskins Acquire McNabb for Two Draft Picks

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Donovan McNabb is changing uniforms and staying in the NFC East.

The Philadelphia Eagles traded McNabb to the Washington Redskins for a pair of draft picks on Sunday night. The Eagles will receive a second-round pick (37th overall) in this month's NFL draft and either a third- or fourth-round pick next year.

"Donovan McNabb was more than a franchise quarterback for this team," Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurie said. "He truly embodied all of the attributes of a great quarterback and of a great person. He has been an excellent representative of this organization and the entire National Football League both on and off the field. I look forward to honoring him as one of the greatest Eagles of all-time and hopefully see him enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton one day."

McNabb, a six-time Pro Bowl quarterback, led the Eagles to five NFC championship games and one Super Bowl in 11 seasons in Philadelphia. His failure to lead the team to its first NFL championship since 1940 plus the emergence of Kevin Kolb made him expendable.

Kolb, who has started two games in three seasons, becomes the starter. Michael Vick is the backup.

"This was a very tough decision," coach Andy Reid said. "Donovan McNabb represented everything a football player could be during his 11 seasons in Philadelphia. He carried this organization to new heights and set a high standard of excellence both on and off the field. We thank him for everything he did for this football team and for this city."

McNabb threw for 3,553 yards and 22 touchdowns with 10 interceptions in 14 games last season, leading the Eagles to the playoffs. His passer rating of 92.9 was the third-highest in his career.

But McNabb played poorly in a loss to Dallas in Week 17 that cost Philadelphia a division title and a first-round bye. He also struggled in a loss to the Cowboys the following week in the wild-card game.

Reid said immediately after the season that McNabb would return in 2010. Reid repeated that several times throughout the offseason until acknowledging last month the team was listening to offers for all three of its QBs.

"Donovan is the ultimate professional," Eagles president Joe Banner said. "He has an incredible work ethic and has been an integral part of our success. Over the years, Donovan has always carried himself with a great deal of dignity. He's an excellent role model for young men and women from across the region. In my mind, he'll always be remembered as one of the greatest Eagles of all time."

I LOVE the skins, always have. but our problem is not our QB is NOT our problem! Jason Campbell is a fine QB! it is our O-LINE that is a problem!

I think trading McNabb was a win/lose for the Eagles. Kolb is an up and coming quarterback. McNabb is getting older, but he is a winner. YOU DON'T TRADE WINNERS UNTIL THEY'RE DONE. This move will prove succesful in a few years, but it will kill them right now. Another thing, I hope the Seahawks can acquire Brandon Marshall. T.J. Houshmanzadeh and Brandon Marshall, I could get used to that. What do people think of the Brandon Marshall situation?

that was the dumbist trade in nfl history trade for round 1 go to buffalo mcnab then they have a qb then a blocker wow so so sos o stpid

I love the eagles and mcnabb but now hes going to stink because he with the horrible reskins.(booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo the reskins

I love the redskins and mcnabb is going to be awesome here!

EagleQuarterback37, if you payed any attention to the Skins last year you would realize that the reason we were so "terrible" was because of injuries. We lost Haynesworth for much of the year, we lost like 3 starting o-line men and a bunch of back up linemen, we were down to our third-or-fourth running back, and we lost Cooley. if we had all of our weapons healthy we coulda been a playoff team. With D-Mac, three former pro-bowl running backs, an all-world-caliber defense, and hopefully a stronger o-line with Russell Okung, we'll be above .500 AND sweep the Eagles. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love mcnabb and the eagles, but I think mcnabb is going to be bad and the eagles are still going to do good if they start m.vick NOT KEVEN!

micheal vick should start because he is alot better then kevin kolg

I have been waiting 3 years for Mcnabb to leave, Mike Vick should be starting QB.

I LOVE THE SKINS GREAT TRADE YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yea!!! lets go skins! I LOVE THE SKINS!!!!!

I think you went a little overboard with the A's.

I am a Eagles fan , and you guys are not going to like McNabb.

I love the skins too! And I am so excited about the trade and the skins next season!

don't worry. there'll be trade talks in DC next year too.

YESSSSSSSS! Even though i m a pittsburgh fan, i m happy because my dad wont be miserable all da time cuzza mcnabb!

Why do they treat him so badly. he has only done good for them. He has lead the eagles to I think 3 NFC championship games and A super bowl (in which they lost by a field goal.) I think that people need to treat McNabb with some respect

i knew mcnabb would finally leave

I hate McNabb but that trade was soooooooooo bad just because we got really bad things for him and they gave him to a better coach then Andy Reid ( Mike Shannahan ) so that might make McNabb!!!!!!!

HELLO LightningBlocker3!?! McNabb brought you eight playoff appearances in the last eleven seasons! Thats like over 75% of his career! You McNabb haters are going to miss him dearly after the Redskins sweep you this season!

Horrible move by the Eagles! Mcnabb was a fantastic player and made the playoffs 7 out of his 10 years. Im hoping that the eagles pick up Tebow! It would be a great fit and we will see how good Tebow is. Tebow is a great player you just have to give him a chance. He will win at least 1 super bowl probably 3. Imagine Tebow and Vick running a wildcat together! They would dominate with all the options they can run. Kolb won't get it done but Vick or Tebow can just give tebow a chance and he will come through. The guy is remarkable!

mcnabb and the eagles are a great combination but 8 trips to the playoffs and no rings thats kinda troubling. overall though this was a stupid trade they can get a lot better than 2 draft picks.

Sorry to bust your bubble AthleticBro1, but D-Mac has played 11 seasons and gone to the playoffs 8 times.

he should have gone to the RAIDERS

he would have been a big help to the cowboys!

Not sold on this one.... We'll see how it goes, but I'm not going to be happy with anything less than IMMEDIATE postseason success.

Do you guys see the coments on ESPN? before the trade everyone was saying they needed to trade him. Now they keep saying the eagles are really stupid and Andy Reid should be fired.

mcnabb should have gone to san fran

oh oops to my other comment
