Cardinals Trade for Holliday

The Cardinals have agreed to a deal with the A's that would send Matt Holliday from Oakland to St. Louis, SI.com has confirmed.

In the deal, which still has to be approved, the A's will receive three minor league players: top Cardinals hitting prospect Brett Wallace, along with outfielder Shane Peterson and right-handed pitcher Clayton Mortensen.

Holliday's offensive numbers have dropped across the board since he left the hitter-friendly Coors Field in a trade between the Rockies and A's last November, though July has been his best month of the season.

The 29-year-old slugger is eligible for free agency after this season.
