George Gipp, HB, Notre Dame (1917-20)
As Notre Dame's first All-America, Gipp led the Irish in passing and rushing in each of his last three seasons (1918, '19, '20). Coach Knute Rockne turned Gipp into a legend by invoking his name to the Notre Dame players at halftime of the 1928 Army game.
