It is the fourth quarter. L.A is down 109-107. 3:10 left in the game. Kobe Bryant tries to do a move he does every game. He dribbles past his defender, Harrison Barnes, and takes a hard fall. Kobe’s holding his knee. It does not look good for Kobe. He shoots free throws on one leg. Kobe is walking off the court. What exactly happened?
The Midwest Regional showcased some of the most anticipated matchups of the NCAA tournament. Louisville, Duke, Michigan State, and Oregon all converged at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis for the event, March 29-31.
Most sports fans know it as March Madness, but this really is the championship tournament of the NCAA men’s Division I basketball. This tournament has a long history and is filled with years of interesting games. Millions of Americans “fill out a bracket,” trying to predict the winners of all 67 games. It’s that time of the year again. Bets are made, brackets are set, and there are predictions everywhere. ESPN goes on and on and on about it for the whole month. Celebrities throw in their ideas. It’s a whole whirlwind of statistics and predictions that won’t end until April 9. Yes sir (or ma’am), you guessed it right: It’s NCAA tournament time!
When SI Kids offered me the opportunity to spend a day with the Harlem Globetrotters, I was very excited. I had seen videos of the Globetrotters, but had never been to see them in person.
To start the day off, I arrived at the team’s hotel. I joined TNT and Big Easy for breakfast. During the meal, we discussed football and basketball, their lives outside of basketball, and how being a Globetrotter has changed their lives.
