Is an 18-Game NFL Season the Right Call? 54

When the NFL first wanted to make 18 game seasons, two clear sides stood out. The NFL wanted to cut two games off the preseason, and then add extra two games onto the regular season. Supporters of the change pointed out that it is the same amount of games, so it doesn’t change how many times they’re playing. Plus, preseason games don’t get as much hype as regular season games do, and extra regular season games could generate more revenue for the NFL.

But, that feeling isn’t universal. Non-supporters think that more games would mean more injuries, and more “wear and tear” on the players.

Which side is correct? That is the controversial question. It’s true that there’s no change in the amount of games played, but regular season games do usually have more injuries, as players are willing to take risks to win the game. But, it’s also true that two extra regular season games would create more cash for the NFL, and that could help fund other projects that the NFL could launch.

Many of the players think that this is a bad idea. They think that they already put their bodies on the line, and now they might need to take an even bigger risk. More players would be injured, and more players would be fined or suspended. Scott Fujita, linebacker for the Cleveland Browns, said,”To me, right now, as things stand, 18 games, the way it's being proposed, is completely unacceptable ... I see more and more players get injured every season.” He’s not alone. Domonique Foxworth of the Baltimore Ravens said “They want to tack on two more games ... which is just going to multiply the injuries and the ailments that we're going to see after we go into our 40s, 50s, 60s—70s, if we're lucky.” However, some fans favor the 18-game season, as that would give them more games to watch.

NFL Commisioner Roger Goodell has said that he wants an 18-game season, but this also comes down to whether the fans want this to happen. While they will get more games, their teams could have more injured players, so star players might not be able to play in the postseason, when it matters most. As the old saying goes, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

So, fans, do you want an 18-game season? Or do you think less is more?

go dallas go

Go Falcons my cousin plays for Steelers to hey cuzzy

If the NFL does have an 18 game season then records will be nothing and players will have a better chanch of geting hert. so there should not be a 18 game season

Well if we have 18 games in a season it might push teams to have better records to into the playoffs.

a long season might help the players.

go cowboys

no not cowboys

There should be more i mean come on we all love football. Why not watch more people get smashed???

I think they shouldn't because everbody wants to see the best players in the NFL play. For example,if we had an 18-game season and Aaron Rodgers had a major concussion in game 17 or 18 and couldn't play in the playoffs, then there wouldn't be any action with the Packers winning the super bowl.

Doesn't matter about what you like because 18 games is to much for the players

what up

he got racted

I think they should keep it the same. If they changed it to 18 games, it would be unfair. Quarterbacks would have two more games to throw in, and Dan Marino's 5,084 yards in a season would be easy to break. The same thing with every position. Or, it would cause more injuries. NFL, it would be cool to have 18 games, but the right choice here is to leave it just the way it is.

P.S.NEW YORK GIANTS R AWESOME

exactly what i think

why should they change it

HOW DO YOU GET LEVEL UP

But if there was a 18 game season we could see more action maybe people who want to be in the playoffs have 1 more game to redeem themselves a make it to the playoffs or the SUPERBOWL

More people would get injured if we did a 18 game season. I'd rather see (Aaron) Rodgers at 100% in 16 games than Rodgers playing 18 games, injured half the time.

I think that people who agree with this are forgetting that we are already some 55 days into a lockout. If we don't have a season how do they expect more games, and to tell you the truth, I am so freaking fed up with this organization. I love football, so if the teams cant communicate then the players are going to be rusty and the games are going to be sloppy. The NFL has been going downhill for a while. In 2009 the Steelers among other teams were 8-8 and missed the playoffs by only one game. In 2010-2011 the 2009 one win rams can miss the playoffs by a game at 7-9. Same with the Seahawks who made it to the NFC semi-finals and beat the reinging champion Saints. With the stadiums, dont even get me started on the low-hanging big screen in Dallas. And the constantlly collapsing Metrodome. If the NFL wants money, make Dallas play on a 900 million dollar feild rather than a billion dollar one. And let the Vikings learn to play in the cold like all of the teams in the AFC north do. Make them give the NFL that cash. IF they really cared about their organization and the league they will give what seems like a lot to us, but pocket-change to them.
