Hello from Shanghai!

We just got to Shanghai Thursday afternoon after wrapping up a great couple days in Beijing. We had the opportunity to visit the BN Vocational School; it’s for children whose parents are migrant workers that leave them to work jobs in different parts of China. These children come from almost nothing, and the opportunity to succeed is usually not a part of their lives. The school takes these kids in and teaches them English, and vocational jobs, so that they can learn how be productive in society, and a lot of them are set up with internships in China and the U.S. after they graduate. It was really touching to see these kids and how positive and happy they were that we came to visit them; we wish them all the best and hope that they may fulfill all of their dreams.

We had the opportunity to go to the NBA China office and meet with the employees there and perform the Magic Circle and show them what the Globetrotters are all about.  They all wanted more, but they’ll just have to wait for when we return in November! Dikembe Mutombo even dropped by while we were there and I think he gained a newfound respect for us after we told him how many games we play a year…LOL.

A couple of reporters and other media people have asked if I've had the opportunity to try any of the local cuisine since being in China. Unfortunately, I haven’t.  I don’t have the strongest stomach in the world, so after seeing a fresh octopus at the hotel buffet the second day in Beijing, I've decided I'll wait till I get back home and get some Panda Express! But from what I've heard, the Peking Duck is really good...or at least that’s what Handles says. I think for now I'll just stick to the bird I'm most familiar with...CHICKEN! LOL

Shanghai is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever been to; the skyline is amazing. They have over 3,000 skyscrapers that have been built, all since 1990! We went to the NBA store downtown on to meet with the local media and let them meet us all face to face. I think they were all really excited to meet us, and we were excited to give them a preview of the mystique associated with the Globetrotters. Just a couple more days till we all head home, talk to you all from the home front!
