It all started in 1998, when the first Pokémon game came out. Who would’ve thought that this game about monsters that fit in a ball in your pocket and battle would be such a hit? Even more amazing is that from 1998 when Red & Blue came out to 2011 with the release of Black & White the franchise is still going strong and coming out with new products. Now the Pokédex has over 600 Pokémon and we are in the 5th generation of games.
The new Unova region has a lot to offer. Obviously, there are new Pokémon, including the new legendary Zekrom (Pokémon White) and Reshisham (Pokémon Black). Now, in Pokémon games, there are 3D cities and 3D effects, like in the Gyms where you earn the eight badges you need in order to challenge the Elite Four and ultimately the Pokémon League Champion. There are also different seasons in this game. Also you have the C-gear, similar to the Poketch and Dream World which is like an online Pokewalker.
Like any other Pokémon game, you have a friend or rival. In Black & White, Cheren and Bianca are your two best friends who, like you, want to become the greatest Pokémon Trainer ever. You will all get to choose a starter Pokémon. You can choose Tepig (fire type), Snivy (grass type) or Oshawott (water type). Cheren will choose the Pokémon that’s type is strong against yours. For example, if you chose Tepig, Cheren would choose Oshawott. Bianca would choose the weaker Pokémon. I would suggest choosing Tepig, because it eventually evolves into Pignite and Emboar, both fighting types that can defeat Cheren’s Dewott or Samurott.
In these games like all the others, there is the team of goons that are trying to take over the world with Pokémon. First there was Team Rocket, followed by Team Aqua and Team Magma, and then there was Team Galactic. Team Rocket made a comeback in Heart Gold and Soul Silver. And now we have Team Plasma. Led by N (a mysterious trainer) and the 7 sages, these guys are trying to liberate all Pokémon, or so they say. I don’t want to spoil the rest of the plot for you, so I’ll just say it’s an awesome adventure with many twists and turns.
These are two of the best DS games I’ve seen in a while. They are definitely worth a try from just about anyone.
