E3 2011: The Party's Over Awards 2

The plug was pulled, the lights were shut down, and the miles of overly thick, ankle-twisting convention carpeting--why does every convention have this kind of carpeting?--was rolled up and stored away until next year.

Yes, it was another terrific E3--one of the best and brightest we've had in years. Despite some of the unfortunate news that has surrounded the industry lately, with development teams getting smaller and franchises, like EA's NBA Live being M.I.A. (for now), everyone was still in a terrific mood, and ready to get their game on.

I've got a few awards I'd like to hand out. Without further adieu, here are the Sports Gamer's Awards for E3 2011.

E3 2011: NBA 2K12 First Look 10

The Sports Gamer was fortunate enough to catch not one but two glimpses of the sequel to one of the sports games of the year last year: NBA 2K12 from 2K Sports.

The first peek was during the Sony press conference on Monday night when Kobe Bryant took the stage to demonstrate how the PS3 version of the game will feature Move functionality. Kobe used the Move controller to pass the ball around from player to player, though exactly how he was doing so wasn't clear. (The Sports Gamer was literally in the nose bleed seats in the Los Angeles Coliseum, which is not a small venue, to say the least.)

The second peek was much more up close and personal. It was inside the 2K booth on the show floor, in a private room that was decorated to look like the greatest man cave on earth. (Jerseys hanging on the wall, including a Boston Bruins jersey; framed photos of great basketballers; 70-inch TV, etc.)

This Just Reviewed: MX vs. ATV Alive 2

Platforms:
Microsoft, Xbox 360
Release Date:
May 10, 2011
Price:
39.99

No one loves a good racing game like the Sports Gamer does. If you want to see a really well developed muscle, look at the index finger, a.k.a. The Gas Presser, on the Sport Gamer's right hand. That thing has logged thousands of hours in the full-on, pedal to the metal position. Honestly, it's a wonder it still even works...

Alive is the latest in the long running MX VS. ATV series. Recent games in the series have been forgettable at best. (Cough, cough, MX VS. ATV: Reflex, cough.) Can Alive (THQ, $39.99) get the series moving in the right direction again?
