She may be only 4'11", but 12-year-old Jessica Aney has beaten older players, bigger players, and even boys. A two-sport star from Rochester, Minnesota, Jessie is a nationally ranked tennis player in her age group and a member of an elite hockey team.
On the court, she is ranked Number 1 in her USTA region, and she competes on the high school varsity team as a seventh grader. Jessie made it all the way to the finals of the Class 2A singles state championship. On the ice, Jessie led Team Reebok to win the International Cup, a tournament that features elite players from the U.S. and Canada. Even though she was a year younger than most of the players in the under-12 division, she took home tournament MVP honors with four goals and two assists. But she’s not just a star in sports — Jessie is also a straight-A student who volunteers in her community.
"Jessica is everything we look for in a SportsKid of the Year," said SI KIDS Managing Editor Bob Der. "She is a hard working, well-rounded student athlete and we are so excited to be able to call her our 2010 SPORTSKID OF THE YEAR."
