nfl power rankings week two colin kaepernick

The first week of the NFL season didn’t have many surprises. Denver and San Francisco looked especially great, as quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Colin Kaepernick had fantastic performances.

Most of the movement in our power rankings took place at the bottom. Philadelphia moved up four spots after debuting its new warp speed offense, and Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay fell after disappointing losses.

Tell us where you think your team should be ranked in the comments!

One of the big matchups in the NFL this week is Sunday night's game between the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers. The division rivals each enter the game 1-0 and are capable of winning the NFC West. It's a little early to call any game "must-win," but this first meeting between the two teams this year could have a huge impact on the postseason.

The game might be a few days away, but starting tonight at 8:30 pm EST Disney XD is getting you ready with an XD Xtra featurette featuring Russell Okung and Doug Baldwin from the Seahawks and 49ers Anquan Boldin, Vernon Davis, and Carlos Rogers talking to Lab Rats star Billy Unger about their pre-game rituals and superstitions. And even though they're not playing each other on Monday night this year, both teams talk about what it's like to be featured on Monday Night Football.

Check out these exclusive images from the day Unger crashed the teams' practice facilities:

Master of the lacrosse universe PAUL RABIL is aiming to expand his sport's reach

At 6′ 3″ and 220 pounds, Paul Rabil is built like a tank and clearly looks like he's some type of athlete.

"Are you a runner?" asks the woman taking his order at a Baltimore sandwich shop.

"Lacrosse," Rabil replies.

But Rabil is not just any lacrosse player. In his modesty, the 27-year-old midfielder for the Philadelphia Wings and Boston Cannons neglects to mention that he once set the world record for fastest shot (111 miles per hour); that last season he broke the Major League Lacrosse single-season scoring record with 72 points; and that he's the sport's premier superstar.

Even though Rabil is the face of lacrosse — the fastest-growing sport in America — he is still relatively unknown in the public eye. But that's changing. He is redefining what it means to be a professional lacrosse player.

pittsburgh pirates marlon byrd 82 wins

Last night, the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Texas Rangers to snap a four-game losing streak and put them one game back of the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. It was also their 82nd win of the season.

For most teams, that mark would be no big deal. For the Pirates, it means they will finish this season with a winning record. For the first time in 20 years.

red bull youth america's cup

Right now, San Francisco is hosting the 34th America's Cup, the premier sailing competition in the world and one of the all-time great events in sports history. Typically, seasoned sailors in peak physical condition make up the crews of the America's Cup teams. But for the first time, young sailors got in on the action.

The inaugural Red Bull Youth America's Cup featured 10 teams from eight countries, each with six team members aged 19-24, racing in the same boats (wing-sailed AC45 catamarans) that their older counterparts compete in. And last week, the NZL Sailing Team with Emirates Team New Zealand, from New Zealand, sailed away with the victory. Full Metal Jacket Racing, also from New Zealand, finished second, followed by ROFF/Cascais Sailing Team from Portugal in third. The American Youth Sailing Force finished in fifth place.

The college football season kicked off with an exciting first week. There weren’t any huge upsets among the top teams, but lower-ranked teams like Oregon State and Kansas State lost to opponents in the FCS, a division that is considered to be of lower quality than the FBS.

peyton manning denver broncos

The NFL kicked off its 2013-14 season last night in Denver, and the Broncos put the hurt on the Ravens, 49-27.

More accurately, it was Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning who did the hurting. He lit up the Ravens defense by throwing seven — seven! — touchdowns last night (and zero interceptions). It was the first time any NFL quarterback has done that since 1969. If you have Peyton on your fantasy team, you're going to have a good week.
