The New, Homer-Happy Yankee Stadium

The new Yankee Stadium was supposed to be all that the “House that Ruth Built” was not.

It would be more spacious (open-sighted concourses), luxurious (more than 50 suites, nearly triple the amount of the old ballpark), and easier?

With 87 home runs hit in the first 23 games, the new home of the Bronx Bombers is on pace to host 306 long balls in 2009. The single-season record for most home runs in one stadium over a season is 303 (Coors Field in 1999). The original Yankee Stadium never had more than 215.

MLB Fiery Five

I didn’t think much of it when I put the Chicago Cubs into the Stinky Five yesterday, but Professor Ulane could not take it.

He took one look at his team’s record in the last week and hasn’t been seen since.

The latest theory is that he took off for the Windy City to give Lou Piniella a piece of his mind. Until he returns, Fiery Five duty falls to me. Click MORE to see who made the cut this week…

Fantasy Fix: More Mauer Power

Since the first day he played in the majors, all the way back in 2004, Twins C Joe Mauer ($6,700,000). He's a threat to win the batting title every year.

But there was always one problem with Mauer: no power! Coming into 2009, Mauer had only hit double-digit home runs in a season once, when he hit 13 in 2006. Apparently, that's no longer an issue.

Mauer missed the first month of the season, but has been crushing everything since. Through just 24 games, he already has 11 home runs, two shy of his career high! And, of course, he's hitting for average as usual... .429!

Now, Mauer obviously won't finish the season with a .429 average and 70 home runs. But, assuming his power surge is for real (remember, he's only 26 years old), Mauer is now one of the absolute elite players in fantasy baseball.

Exercise is best thing you can do for your body, right? Think again.

Studies have recently shown a dramatic increase in kid-related injuries. Sports Doctor Lyle Micheli recently told the Washington Post that “overuse injuries” are up 55 percent in the past decade.

What’s going on?

Any soccer fans in the house?

If you are a soccer fan, you know the UEFA Finals will be held tomorrow. And if you aren't... well, now you know anyway! :)

Want a prediction on who will take the title this year?

You won't get it here (sorry!). But what I can do is offer you a sneak peak at some of the sights and styles you'll see when the action kicks off. Specifically, what kind of kicks soccer stud Lionel Messi will be wearing on his feet.

They're called the F50i, and they're all kinds of cool. They're made of something called SprintSkin, which Adidas says is soooo comfortable (how comfortable?) it's like putting your feet into another layer of skin. Which is both sweet, and icky, all at once. Lol. Click the vid to see for yourself!

And as a bonus, you'll find a shorter version of this clip after the break...

The Stinky Five

The Stinky Five usually appears on Mondays, but Memorial Day has pushed everything back. All that means is that some teams got one extra day to prove their absolute and total stinkiness. And boy did they.

I saw a game last week in New York and one in Los Angeles, and no matter where I was, the stench from these five teams followed. Want to know which ones made the cut? Click MORE to find out…
