Greinke Wins Without Wins

It was announced yesterday that Kansas City Royals pitcher Zack Greinke won the American League Cy Young award.

This is awesome for two reasons: (1) Greinke had a remarkable season and totally deserved recognition; and (2) Greinke's award challenges the idea that the number of wins a pitcher has in a season is a testament to his talent.

His jersey used to be the best selling in the world. It is obvious that Allen Iverson used to be ‘the man’ when it came to the NBA, but that notion is now long gone.

Torre Shouldn't Have Yankee Fever

You may be hearing about the Swine Flu epidemic, but it’s actually Yankee Fever that has everyone in its grip.

Everywhere I turn people are wearing brand spanking new Yankees hats. Every store I walk past is selling shirts and sweatshirts celebrating the World Series. There are even commercials on TV that aren’t selling anything; their only purpose is to congratulate Derek Jeter and his teammates.

I didn’t realize it was so contagious at first. But I knew it was serious when I discovered that Joe Torre had caught Yankee Fever too.
