The first Reebook Classic release of the year hits stores today, and takes things really old school. The Kamikaze I was the footwear of choice for Seattle Sonics great Shawn Kemp. He wore the shoe starting in 1994, and to mark its 20th anniversary Reebok is bringing it out of retirement.
Here's a closer look at the Kamikaze I, as well as a shot of Kemp wearing the shoe during his playing days, and a photo of Kemp with the Concord High School basketball team in Elkhart, Indiana. Kemp attended Concord High, and along with Reebok he donated pairs of Kamikazes to the school's basketball team during his visit to Concord High on January 10.
Super Bowl XLVIII is still a few weeks away, and we won't know who will head to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to play in the big game until next Monday. But thanks to Nike, we know what the players and coaches will be wearing on the field and the sidelines. On Friday, the company revealed its 2014 Silver Speed Collection. It "draws inspiration from the Vince Lombardi Trophy, the icy weather of the Northeast, and the bright lights of the city" and was designed to keep teams warm on what could be a really cold game night.
The part of the collection you'll see the most of is the Elite 51 uniform. It will be worn for the game, and it includes the Super Bowl edition of the Nike Pro Combat Hyperwarm Max Shield Hood, Nike Vapor Shield Glove, and Vapor Carbon 2014 Elite Cleat. All of that gear was developed so players have speed, precision, and traction in extreme weather conditions.
Coaches, trainers, crews, and fans won't be left out in the cold, either. The Silver Speed Collection includes jackets, boots, shoes, hoodies, and a special Super Bowl edition limited jersey to get everyone into the game — and keep them from turning blue.
Here's a look at just a few pieces of gear in the collection:
Let's say you're out on the court, shooting some hoops with your buddies. You're having a lot of fun, but are you improving your basketball skills? Thanks to a new connected basketball, now you can see where you dominate — and where you need to improve.
The 94Fifty Smart Sensor Basketball is a regulation-size rock, but under its skin is something unique: a pliable container holding nine sensors that measure key skills such as dribble power, shot-release speed and arc, and backspin. The ball gathers information based on the workouts and drills loaded in the 94Fifty app. Using a Bluetooth connection, the ball sends data to the app, which gives you instant feedback on the areas you need to work on. The app then adjusts its workouts as you improve, allowing you to develop better muscle memory, core strength, and, of course, basketball skills.
At an even tin Chicago this afternoon, hockey equipment company Bauer gave the world its first look at three new "game-changing" products that it hopes will be the future of on-ice gear: a new protective body suit, goalie pad, and player skate.
Bauer's development team "set out to completely reinvent speed, completely reinvent performance, and completely reinvent safety," CEO and President Kevin Davis said. The result was the Od1n line of gear, which accomplishes all three goals by making the equipment lighter and tuning the performance based on an athlete's body type and playing style.

Calvin Johnson is one of the best playmakers in the NFL, and he’s probably got the best nickname in the league, too: Megatron. The Detroit Lions’ star wide receiver is nicknamed after the Transfromers character, and thanks to Nike his connection with the Decepticon is getting a lot more real.
Nike and toy company Hasbro teamed up to create a sneaker and action figure collection based on Megatron — the robot and football player. The signature shoe, called the Nike CJ81 Megatron Trainer Max, is inspired by the Transformers character. It’s got a purple, red, and metallic silver color scheme, and includes the Decepticon logo on the heel. Its bold red swoosh and glossy purple finish will definitely make you the center of attention at the gym. Oh, and it parts of it glow in the dark to make you look even more robotic.
