The only baseball game in town this year — the MLB 2K series is taking a break until further notice — is a good one.
The critically acclaimed The Show series returns with a steady stream of improvements. If you haven't played The Show in a few years, then you're in for a real treat. The PS4 version, which hits stores today, is the most visually stunning sports game ever made.
On all versions, the game's front menu has been completely overhauled. The new tile-like format makes it easier than ever to locate the exact gameplay mode that you're looking for.
"Road To The Show," the game's thrilling single-player experience, has been vastly improved. You no longer have to pass weird performance or training goals in order to be called up to the majors. Instead, the game, like a coach, is constantly evaluating you. Translation: the quickest route to making it to the big leagues is solid, consistent play. Catcher mode in RTTS has also been tweaked, with gamers now having to move the catcher's glove in order to properly receive each pitch. It's neat.
Finally, if you're busy with homework and hanging out with friends, and don't have a lot of time for video games, don't worry. The Show has a solution. It's an all-new feature called "Quick Counts," which allows you to hustle through an entire nine-inning game in less than 30 minutes. Best of all, starting with this year's installment, your saved games will be carried over from year to year. That means when MLB 15 The Show comes out a year from now, you no longer have to start a franchise, a season, or a new RTTS character from scratch.
