DeAndre Jordan's vicious slam dunk over Brandon Knight last night got us thinking about some of the other great moments in recent league history when one guy absolutely posterizes another.
Jordan's teammate Blake Griffin definitely made the list. So did Vince Carter, of course. And we reached a little further back to unearth some Shawn Kemp, Scottie Pippen and Shaquille O'Neal classics. Here's a tip for all defenders out there, if you see these guys barreling down the lane toward you: run! Duck! Take cover! You're going to end up on some poster on some kid's wall for the next ten years if you're not careful!
We've compiled some our favorite power slams from the past few decades for you to watch. Let us know in the comments which jams you'd include on our list!
Vince Carter in the 2000 Sydney Olympics
Anytime you LEAP OVER a 7-foot dude, like Vince Carter did to France's Frederic Weis during Team USA's Gold Medal run in 2000, you may have on of the greatest dunks ever.
Blake Griffin vs. Paul Gasol
Oh boy, this one was nasty. Watch Andrew Bynum's face at the very end of the video to see how nasty he thought Blake Griffin's forearm shiver and slame over Pau Gasol was. Gasol probably did have a case to make that it Griffin fouled him, but that's not how the refs saw it. So now Gasol is another notch on Blake Griffin's belt.
Shawn Kemp's "Lister Blister" and Chris Gatling Facial
Some of you guys may not be familiar with Shawn Kemp, but he was the 1990s version of Blake Griffin. He had crazy hops and he routinely dunked on guys. In one playoff game in 1992 when his Seattle Sonics played the Golden State Warriors, he had two of the great facials of all-time. First he took a pass from the elbow, found a seam and then exploded to the hoop. Along the way he barelled over the Warriors' Alton Lister sending him flying to the ground. When Kemp finally came back down to earth he squatted and pointed right at Lister which got the crowd PUMPED. Later in that same game he slammed so hard on Chris Gatling, that Gatling actually gave him a high five! An opponent was so humbled by a vicious slam he actually congratulated Kemp!
Scottie Pippen vs. Patrick Ewing
In the year Michael Jordan was away, Pippen was the man for the Bulls. He decided he wanted to remind the New York Knicks' Patrick Ewing of that by jamming on him, knocking him over and walking over him. Just plain disrespectful.
Shaquille O'Neal vs. Chris Dudley
The Knicks' Chris Dudley didn't take to kindly to being run over by the Diesel, so much so that he chucked the ball at Shaq! Hilarious!
John Starks Rises Up!
Back in the 1990s, the Bulls and Knicks had some epic playoff battles. In 1993 they were at it again and John Starks made one of the great plays of that series with this epic slam over Horace Grant.
Derrick Rose Two-Hand Jam On Goran Dragic
Honestly, we can't wait until Derrick Rose comes back full strength. Want to know why? Just watch this crazy dunk.
Dwyane Wade vs. Kendrick Perkins
One of South Beach's finest nearly takes announcer Mike Tirico's breath away with this spin move into the lane and fully extended two-hand monster jam over the Thunder's Kendrick Perkins.
