Roy Halladay’s move to the National League and to a real World Series contender was one of the most anticipated of the season. And so far he hasn’t disappointed. He is 6-2 for a first place team, has the fourth lowest ERA in the NL and the fifth most strikeouts.
But there is one category he leads in that could become a problem: innings pitched.
Halladay’s 71 innings lead the majors, as do his four complete games. In his last start, a loss to the Pirates on Tuesday, Halladay threw 132 pitches. No pitcher has thrown more in a start this season.
Throughout his career, Halladay has been an incredibly durable pitcher. He’s made only five trips to the DL, and has made at least 30 starts in each of the past four seasons. But he’s also never pitched in the post-season; his season has always ended in September.
If the Phillies want Halladay to be at the top of his game when it matters most, they would be wise to take him out of games. I’m sure they’d trade a couple of regular season wins or complete games to have him at full strength in the playoffs.
What do you think? If you were Charlie Manuel would you start limiting Halladay’s pitches?

Halladay will not lead in innings pitched. Ubaldo Jimenez will.
PHILADELPHIA IS THE BEST TEAM IN HISTORY AND WE CAN BEAT UBALDO JIMENEZ HOLE TEAM
halladay has been around a log time he knows what he is doing but i want him to keep pitching against atlanta
Although Halladay is an amazing pitcher he has not proven what he can do on a team that is actually GOOD. He is always close to the top in innings pitched, so that shouldn't be an area for concern. Him and the freak will go one-two in Cy Young voting.
Hanley for MVP (when the machine retires) =)
That's impossible! Do you know how many innings he threw with the Blue Jays
Halladay is one of the most well known Phillies pitchers of all time. He seems to still have a good looking career ahead of him.
i think they should let him stay in until he shows signs that he cant go as long or he tells his coaches
i probably would.
halladay can handle that many pithes, but not very well
